SHDF (Sikh Human Development Foundation) is deeply saddened by the recent passing of an icon of the Sikh American community: Dr. Inder Mohan Singh Ji. He was a wonderful human being — very thoughtful and caring, a great Gursikh, highly talented and accomplished, and a pillar of the community for many decades. He was one of our most generous supporters. His passing is a great loss to the community.
Dr. Singh was a long-time donor and steadfast supporter of SHDF, generously contributing to our mission of empowering the Sikh community through education and human development.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur) and Yale University, where he earned his Masters and PhD in Computer Science, Dr. Singh built a remarkable career in technology. He served as Chairman and CEO of Excelan, a leader in local area network technology, which later merged into Novell. He co-founded Kalpana, which pioneered LAN switching technology and became one of Cisco’s earliest and most significant acquisitions. For nearly two decades, he led LynuxWorks as Chairman and CEO, driving innovation in embedded software and establishing it as an industry leader.
Dr. Singh was also a visionary leader for the Sikh American community. He founded the Chardhi Kalaa Foundation to serve as a home for dialogue, learning, and vichaar (reflection). He organized classes, seminars, and an annual conference on Guru Granth Sahib Ji to encourage community discussion and show that spiritual engagement and critical thinking go hand-in-hand.
Our deepest heartfelt condolences to his family.
May Guru Ji uhna nu hamesha apne charna vich Nivas bakshan and give strength to the family to bear the unbearable loss.
