Harpreet Kaur is an incredible SHDF success story. She comes from a humble background. Her father worked as an unskilled worker making a meager income. Despite working through the week, Her could barely manage to put food on the table. Having lived most of his life working for others, Harpreet’s father dreamt of seeing his daughter as an educated and independent woman. With the support of her father and her family, Harpreet worked hard to complete her high school education.
Harpreet had big dreams, and in order to live her dreams, she realized the importance of a college education. Even with her family’s financial support, she was falling short of meeting her college tuition.
She aspired to study further so that she could be come self-dependent and support her family, but economic helplessness made her feel hopeless – until she applied for the SHDF scholarship. The scholarship helped her complete her masters in physical education, and Harpreet also went on to play football (soccer) for the national team.
Today, Harpreet is a physical education trainer at a reputed school in Amritsar, India. In her words, “it is a privilege that I am working as a lecturer/physical education trainer in one of the best schools in Amritsar. This would have not happened had SHDF not funded my education.”
