Harjeet’s father is a daily wage earner. A mason by profession whose work is wholly dependent on chance and climate. Supporting family with such periodic income cannot assure a smooth or future. But irrespective of such limitations the ray of hope for Harjeet was never blurred.
“Thankful was the moment when I came to know from my friend about SHDF’s scholarship test. I was stuck in the middle of my studies and felt like quitting,” he said. His voice trembles while recalling that time when his father had an accident and fractured his shoulder. The family is dependent on the frugal income of his father’s lone income.
The trials of meeting the basic needs of survival left little hope for a good education for children. But after being hired by Punjab Gramin Bank, there has been no looking back for Harjeet. It was a life-changing moment for him and he acknowledges that it would not have been possible without the support of SHDF and Nishkam helping him financially.
With excellent grades in his BCA (Bachelors of Computer Applications), he has cleared his banking recruitment test and is working as an office assistant and computer operator in Punjab Gramin Bank in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
