Ashnint comes from a middle class family. Her father is visually impaired and her mother provides stitching services at home to earn bread for the family. Ashnint had aspired to become a software professional since her early days in school, but financial constraints limited her educational opportunities.
While the family took loans from relatives to finance her education, it was not enough, so SHDF opened the doors to her dreams. After three SHDF scholarships, she completed her education and now works as an associate software engineer with the global consulting firm Accenture. She is proud she can stand for her parents and to support them financially.
She says, “I will always be grateful to SHDF for their timely help. It is a bitter truth that girls in our society are treated only as marriage material. They have a limited scope to study and fulfill their dreams, but I’m the boy in my family and want to support my parents throughout my life.”
