About the Foundation
SHDF is a non-profit, non-political, tax-exempt (under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of USA) organization. It was registered in the State of Maryland, USA, in May, 1999. SHDF is currently in its eleventh year of dedicated service to the youth back home in India.
Leadership
Chairman
Amarjit Singh Sodhi, I.A.S. (Retired): A founding member and has been the chairman of the organization since 1999. Held senior key positions like district commissioner, CEO, Commissioner, Joint Secretary to Government of India for general and rural development. Later, as a senior management specialist in the World Bank, led missions to countries in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe to design, develop and execute rural development, agricultural education and research projects.
Secretary-General
Gajinder Singh Ahuja: Retired from the World Bank holding an impressive record in budget and finance management. He oversaw and worked on finance-related projects and programs for several countries. Gajinder also worked for the Indian Foreign Service and has been with SHDF as a Secretary General since its inception.
Public Relations Officer
Dr. Veena Oberoi: An SHDF member since 2000 has over 30 years of professional experience. She is the ex-chairperson, the Sikh Foundation of Virginia. Currently, she is a Professor of Philosophy at the George Mason University designing and teaching courses to government officials at the Northern Virginia Regional Training Academy.
Community Outreach Programs
Dr. Rajwant Singh: A founding member, has been in-charge of community outreach programs. A dentist and a known community leader, he is the Executive Director of Guru Gobind Singh Foundation Maryland for 20 years and the National Chairman of Sikh Council on Religion and Education, USA for 10 years.
Member-At-Large
Parvinder Singh: Has been a SHDF member for over a year and focuses on IT issues. Parvinder has over 17 years work experience in the field of Information Technology and now provides consulting services to the Federal Government.
Member, New Initiatives
Dr. Mohinder Singh Mudahar: A PhD. in Economics from Wisconsin, initially taught at Cornell University and later led the international economic policy program at the International Fertilizer Development Center, Alabama. At the World Bank, which he joined 25 years ago, he has held senior-level professional and managerial positions, traveled across the globe, led economic development missions, published books and made critical contributions to facilitate transition to market economies in China and the former Soviet Union countries.
